Lazz Hewings, from Shepherds Bush in London has been on an unlucky streak of late and while brooding on this decided that he was far more likely to be struck by lightning than he was to win the Lottery Jackpot.
Lazz, who is 44, and a picture framer and cartoonist by trade decided to ask bookies William Hill if they were prepared to offer him odds on being struck by lightning. Hills have decided to accept the bet and have offered Lazz 1000/1 for a stake of £10 and should his prediction come true he will receive a cheque for £10,000.
"This is definitely one of the strangest requests that we have received and is up there with Arthur King who backed himself to die within six months of placing his bet. But as he came to us, we decided to offer him odds of 1000/1. Considering the bet is open for his lifetime and that US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimate Lightning strikes the earth 20 million times a year, Lazz could be in with shout." said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams. - Press Release 2006 |
